More than 50 area restaurants will participate in a fundraiser Tuesday to help victims of violence.

Restaurants like Liliana's, 2951 Triverton Park Drive in Fitchburg, are helping the Domestic Abuse Intervention Services with its annual effort to raise money in partnership with local businesses, dubbed Dine Out for DAIS.

Dave Heide, chef and owner of Liliana's, said the restaurant has been working with DAIS on the event for three years.

"We've had some of our staff members who've been touched by domestic abuse and we just really wanted to do something to kind of help out in the community

Emily Barnes, spokeswoman for DAIS, said the organization has invited area restaurants to participate in Dine Out for DAIS annually for the last four years and donate 10 percent of their proceeds to support victims of domestic violence in Dane County.

"It's a way for local participating restaurants to help us raise awareness about domestic violence in our community

We're looking for those restaurants to really help us get the word out about the prevalence of domestic violence," Barnes said. " In Dane County, about a third of all of the referrals do the Dane County District Attorney's Office are domestic violence related.

Barnes estimated there are potentially 12,000 cases of domestic violence taking place in the county every year. One in four women are affected by this issue and one in 10 men.

Proceeds from Dine Out for DAIS supports the organization's programs including shelter services, crisis intervention and its help line.
